Welcome back to another school year!  Hopefully this will be an enjoyable one.  With the first day of school being Tuesday, we will be reviewing rules and regulations of the school, and I will be explaining my expectations for the Intensive French (IF) program.  There is no homework with this program, except reading each night for 20 minutes.  It is very important that they keep their english reading up in preparation for the compacted curriculum in February.Wednesday, I will pass out the scholastic book orders and they will be due on September 19th.  As well, we will start into a bit of the french program with myself giving examples of each part of the program and what my expectations are.By Thursday, we will be getting more and more into the IF program and by Monday we will be 100% french all day long.Hopefully everyone enjoys their week, and I look forward to starting back my weekly Heartland Happenings, if this class is willing to put it together for me.Enjoy!

The second last week of March?  Really?  Wow!  April will be here soon enough. Monday is St. Patrick's Day, so dress in green to celebrate this great day.  Monday will be your last day to prepare for our school's science fair.  Come prepared. Tuesday will be science fair for most of the day.  The judging will take place in the morning, then after recess will be the best projects per class in the hallway upstairs.  We will announce who goes to the District STEM Fair at Gretna Green after the parents leave in the afternoon.  Report cards go home Tuesday as well. Wednesday, we will be starting to focus more on our Heritage Fair projects...it seems like one project after another.  Thursday is the start of parent-teacher interviews and will be held from 4-6 that evening.  Friday is another half-day of parent-teacher and the students have the day off.  Enjoy your short week, and good luck on your projects!

Welcome back to another week!  Back to winter weather, but only one more week after this for the Intensive French Program.  That is exciting.  Change is always good. Monday the boys will have a home game at the school for basketball.  Come by and cheer them on!  Also, Monday we will be starting our new book "C'est l'heure du déjeuner" where they will continue with the vocabulary of food.  Tuesday is library as always, but the girls will have their basketball home game after school that day.  Wednesday is the basketball practice for the boys after school.  Mr. Flynn needs to have a note to make sure you are picking them up afterwards. Thursday we will have skating at the Civic Center at 10:10.  Please remember your skipants, helmet, mittens and skates.  The boys basketball team will have a game at Saint Andrews Elementary at 3:30.  Good luck boys! Friday I will be absent for Intensive French meetings, but it will be the same routine as usual on Friday.  Have a great week class!

Middle of January already.  The year is slipping by quickly!  I hope everyone had a safe weekend with that crazy freezing rain storm and everyone is prepared for a week of preparation for the Provincial French Test!  Two weeks left before the test.  My class is going to do fantastic this year! Monday we will continue to work away at the food unit of our curriculum in French.  Our new book this week is "Bien Manger" teaching vocabulary about the food guide and other food vocabulary.  We are also going to continue working at our practice tests.  The class is really improving each time they try these, so hopefully it builds their confidence for the real test.  Preparation is the key to any success! Tuesday is our library day.  Don't forget your books.  Also our girls basketball team has a game at Gretna Green.  Please remember to prepare and tell you parents of this the night before.  Wednesday we get the pleasure of having Mr. Murphy working with us for guidance.  Thursday, I will be out for the afternoon at meetings, but we will continue preparing for the test.  Then we are finally at Friday.  Our day to celebrate a week of hard work. Remember to dress warm in the mornings because you will be outside sinc it is going to be a nice week.  Wear your skipant to school so that we are prepared to head right to the playground. Have a super week!

Wow!  Three weeks left until the Christmas Break.  You know what that means?  Practice, practice, practice for your last school Christmas Concert!  How exciting! This week, Monday is canoeing with Mr. Flynn at MVHS.  Please remember to bring all the things that Mr. Flynn has told you to bring.  Monday after school is also Math Help for any of you interested in attending.  Remember you must bring a note for Mr. Flynn. For the rest of the week, we will be finishing our book, "La patinoire", working on vocabulary for Noël, and starting to write our letter to Santa!  How fun?  I can't wait! Enjoy your week!

Middle of November.  Amazing!  Who loves the white blanket covering our playground?  I sure do! I hope everyone enjoyed their day off yesterday and got rested up!  We have lots of birthdays this week.  Happy Birthday goes out to Nick M. and Jacob M.  I hope you enjoy your week! This week will be normal routine.  We have lots of work to do on this short week.  We are starting a new book and learning the vocabulary of winter and starting Christmas vocabulary and songs, since there are only 27 school days until Christmas break.  How crazy is that!  Only 24 school days before the Christmas Concert so we have to be preparing for that ASAP! Remember that Fridays we are collecting food for the Food Bank.  This Friday it is School Colors Day!  Enjoy your week!!!
Wow...I can't believe I am writing the word November!  These kids are going to be in middle school before we know it! This week is pretty straight forward routine.  Tuesday is library, as always.  Wednesday is the cafeteria Halloween dinner, which for the price of $5 the student will get hamburger and fries with a milk and cookie.  Please pay by Tuesday October 29th. Thursday, for Halloween, we will have a mini-celebration after gym class.  If you are sending in treats, remember there are 16 students in the class.  Friday, I would like to wish Cameron Anthony a very special happy birthday from all her friends at Harkins Elementary! Have a great week and Happy Halloween!
I cannot believe I just wrote the word October!  I find once October comes, the days get shorter, and Christmas is here before we know it.  This week looks like a hot one, so hopefully the snow is no where in sight! This week is quite routine.  Tuesday we will have our End of the Month Assembly to give out our Harkins Treasure Awards and Perfect Attendance Awards.  After school, the soccer team will be playing at the Croft field against Nelson at 4pm.  Good luck. Wednesday, is our cross country meet at St. Andrews.  This is always my favorite run.  They go through the Hallow, and it is very well organized.  Please meet there before 4pm, for the walk-through. Thursday is the start of Mad Science.  If you signed up, make Thursday on your calendar!  Finally Friday.  The day of the week that all students love.  We will get to spend some time with our Reading Buddies as well as play some educational games on the computers IF you have all your paragraphs finished in French.  If not this gives me the time to work with those that need a bit of extra help.  Let's work hard and stay on task to make the best of our week!  Have fun!

Last week of September!  Crazy, isn't it?  It will be Halloween before we know it! This week is a great week!  Monday the class will be going mountain biking with Mr. Flynn at Croft.  They will need to bring their lunch for that day. Tuesday, we will start a new book, "Les jour de la semaine" and do our good copy of our new paragraph on our best friends.  Don't forget that Tuesdays are always library days. Wednesday and Thursday, is quite routine, but don't forget that if you have joined cross country our meet is at Croft, Wednesday at 4pm.  Good luck Brook and Lindsey! Friday is our Annual Terry Fox Walk.  After recess the fun begins with our walk to the square down town and then Ms. Barrieau will be joining us for the day and give a speech.  Pizza will be supplied by the Home and School that day, so you will not need a lunch, unless you don't like pizza. Here's to a great week!

Welcome back!  I hope you all had a super weekend.  Rested and relaxed for the week of work ahead of us! This week is another busy week.  First of all, Monday the fundraiser sales are due.  If you forgot about them over the weekend, you can still bring them in, but please do so as soon as possible.  Monday is also the first cross country race of the season.  For all those runners, please be at NSEE at 3:45 for the walk through.  The race is at 4pm. Tuesday is our school picture day.  Bring your brightest smile.  We are also going to have a fire drill on that day if we have time after pictures.  We will be starting a new book this week and a new paragraph in french.  I hope you all have a great week!

The second week of school, but the first full week.  Who thinks they are up for this?  I know I sure am!  This week brings the beginning of the soccer year.  I am sure that there will be lots of students in my class that will want to play.  Mr. Flynn will have more information to follow.  Monday we will be completely in french except for after physical education where we have to finish our personal safety unit.  This will mark the end of the "housework" that I have to do in english and we will be rolling full steam ahead in french now.  You will see the first book of the year, "Mon grand frère" and I hope you enjoy the week of activities that I have planned for that.  We will be starting our first paragraph in french.  A review, of what we did last year, all on your family! Friday will be our fire drill, lock down, bus safety day.  Please come prepared and remember all the important rules during these drills.  We want to be very prepared for these if they ever happen. Enjoy your week Grade 5.  I look forward to spending another week with such a great group of young men and women!

Welcome back, boys and girls and welcome to Grade 5!  I am excited to start a new year with such a great group of students.  This week will be getting used to routine and slowly getting into the Intensive French program.  We will have lots of fun this year, I am sure of it! Please remember to bring in your money for your agenda.  It is $7/child or $13/family.  You will be using this daily and it is a great routine to get into in preparation for middle school next year. As well, there are lots of forms for your parents to fill out.  Please try to have this completed and brought back to me by Friday. Enjoy your year everyone!

Only 7 more school weeks left before the trip over to the big kid school!  Middle school, here we come! This week is to be a beautiful and sunny one.  It is much easier to wake up for school with the sun shining brightly and it is also easier when you have fun things to look forward to.  This week is full of fun. We are going to be working hard on the Egypt projects.  The students will get one hour a day in the lab to finish their presentations, so please come prepared to work and finish this up for Monday...that is when they are due.  Wednesday, Mrs. MacDaonld will be here to give a presentation on healthy choices.  This has to be one of my favorite presentations.  It really hits home on how much sugar and fat are in some of our favorite foods.  Hopefully it will help them make wise choices in their daily living.  They are also doing Archery on Thursday and Friday.  We have a busy week.  Hopefully you will be able to get it all finished!  Enjoy the sun!
