In grade 4D, students will complete nightly homework.  They will Log and Study Math Facts every night.  From time to time, students will have an assignment to complete at home in addition to the usual.  Although it isn’t every night, students must get into the habit checking each night for other assignments.  This is their responsibility, but with a little reminder from home, it will be much easier to get use to.

What’s my number? My number has four digits.  It is smaller than 6000 but bigger than 5000.  The hundreds digit is smaller than 8 but bigger than 6.  The tens digit is an odd number smaller than 5 but bigger than 1.  The units digit is in the 3 times table and is bigger than 4 but smaller than 8.  What’s my number?

In Math, we are working on comparing and ordering numbers to 10 000.  Also, we are working in class and at home to review math facts strategies.  I expect students to practice and drill each night.  You could call out facts or use a web site such as: http://www.factmonster.com/math/flashcards

Welcome back to another exciting year at Harkins Elementary.  This year we will be doing a lot of projects.  Some may require additional supplies from home, but I will give you appropriate notice.  Many of the items will be things found around the house or the Dollar Store.  I appreciate your support and look forward to a wonderful school year.

Students in Grade 4D have gone wild for Math this week.  They are working hard on the new computer program and are having so much fun!  I have attached your child's user name and login information in the front of their agenda so they can play at home. http://www.mathletics.ca/

Way to go Grade 4D!  Our class donated over 300 items to our local food bank this year. A special thank you to the parents who were so generous!

As far as I can clearly see is horses. I see the one grand or main barn plus the side one, with endless green fields by both barns. I usually hear the excited whinny of a horse going on a trail .Or the scared neigh, when the tractor engine roars. I briefly rest my hand  on the cool solid door of  the stable as I walk in .I slowly pat the soft  rump  of my school horse as her  dirty  straw covered  fur scratches and tickles my hand.  I quickly finish swallowing my doughnut down.  The taste of cream and chocolate still lingers in my mouth.  The lovely smell of horse and hay clings in the air and I can smell the tractor blow up puffs of smoke.
