Friday, March 1 is our annual Activity Day. A big Thank You goes out to our Home and School, the Miramichi Curling Club and the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club for helping us celebrate winter! Please see the attached memo for details.
This Wednesday, February 27th, is the day of our annual Spellathon! Please help study the words with your child and try to collect as many pledges as possible. This is the major fundraiser for the Grade 5 students for their end of the school year class trip.
Remember the winner of each class receives a medal, and the second and third place winners a certificate. All participants will also receive a participation certificate. Awards will be given at the end of the month assembly. If you raise over $10 your name goes in for a draw for a Pizza Delight gift card.
WEEK #4: Food Safety at Lunch TimeTips for
Keeping Lunch Safe:1. Always wash hands before
preparing or eating lunch. This is the one of best ways to prevent food
spoilage and contamination.2. Keep cold foods cold. 3. Keep hot foods hot. 4. Clean all lunch boxes, thermal
bags, plastic utensils and containers in hot soapy water. DO NOT re-use
plastic wrapping and bags.
5. Wash all fruits and veggies under
cold running water.

Harkins Elementary will be celebrating Pink Shirt Day on Monday, February 25. Mr. Murphy, our Guidance Counsellor, will be at school with a variety of activites planned in recognition of this important anti-bullying day.
The 100th day of school was celebrated on Friday, February 15. The students would like to thank the Home and School for the huge cake they provided as part of the celebration. It was a day filled with 100's!
Dietitians of Canada recommends:
Children 1 to 8 years old get 6 cups of fluid per day.

Include stickers, notes or cartoons in lunch box to brighten up their day!Convenience Foods.
Convenience lunch packs (ie. Lunchables) are easy but they may be high in fat, sugar and salt. So why not make your own.
Jazz up your children’s homemade lunch pack with colourful packages, or lunch bags to make it fun.
Last night, we had our first ever "Math Night" to celebrate the joy that mathmatics brings to our lives. Thanks to the help of the District Math Leads Kelly Richard and Angela Buggie, who shared with us many games for the students and parents to play, learn and stategize. We had over 50 students attend which we are very proud of. A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who made this night a success!
