Keeping yourself safe while being active. Here are some great safety tips for when you being physically active. 1. Wear proper footwear like sneakers when running or playing sports2. If you are going to be outdoors, remember to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn3. Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated and prevent overheating4. If you are biking, rollerblading, skateboarding, etc., be sure to wear your helmet.This is the final week of the Go for 42 Challenge. Be active and strive to accumulate 40 kms. Be sure to register for the Mango Kids Fun Run which will be on Sunday, June 23rd at 10:30.

Preparing for physical activity is important! Did you know that it is important to warm up your body before any physical activity? Warming up prepares your body physically and mentally for exercising, and also helps prevent injuries. If you are going for a run, you can warm up with some light jogging followed by some stretching. Is physical activity really good for you? Did you know that by increasing your physical activity you can greatly reduce your chances of getting sick?  You will also be happier and healthier! Playing outside with your friends is a fun and easy way to stay physically active. Running improves your heart, lungs, flexibility, and gives you more energy! Running can also help you improve in other sports.  Don’t forget to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day!  Lace up your sneakers and get out there to accumulate Kilometers and “Go for 42.”

Congratulations to our Re-Do a Room winner!  Cathy Bryenton is the lucky lady who gets to have a room done over in her house.  Congrats Cathy! Lucky Ms. Madison Breau-Sherrard was the student who sold the most tickets and landed a iPod as a reward.  Josh O'Neill was a close second and received $200 and Willard McAllister was the third place winner and received $50.

Mango Mania is back again this month with Go for 42. For the next 5 weeks there will be posts on this website giving you information about being physically active, nourishing your body to enable it to keep active and encouraging students to participate in the Go for 42 challenge at school. Won’t you join us for the Mango Kids Fun Run on Sunday June 23rd, 2013 at the Lindon Recreation Center, Miramichi?     Did you know that being physically active for at least 60 minutes a day will:  Help you grow stronger, improve your health and fitness, and Help you do better in school.

The Miramichi Kinsmen and Anglophone North School District are pleased to accept film entries for the Third Annual Kin Film Festival. All students in ASD-N are invited to participate. Students may submit films in one or both of the two categories. The first category is the Kin Category. Films in this category will address the theme “Doing the Right Thing”. The second category is the Open Category. Films of any genre or subject matter can be submitted to this category. The top films selected in each category will be screened.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to Ethan Arbeau who was selected by the staff at Harkins Elementary as our 2013 Turn Around Achievement Award winner!  We are very proud of how he demonstrated that hard work and dedication to his academics will pay off.  Ethan has improved tremendously in all areas of his studies.  He is a super role model for the younger students and is a great Peer Helper as well.  Way to go Ethan!

There are only 2 weeks left until the draw for the Re-do-a-Room contest winner! Buy a ticket and have a room in your house renovated for the spring! Students are reminded there are various prizes for those who sell tickets. The more money raised for the school, the bigger the prizes. The Harkins Elementary Home and School thanks all those who purchased tickets for their support.
