Physical Activity Guidelines  The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend that children and youth (5-17 years) should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. This should include: 1. Intense activities at least 3 days per week (ex. running, basketball, soccer) 2. Activities that strengthen muscle and bone at least 3 days per week.(ex. climbing and swinging on playground equipment, running, walking, jumping rope) The more you do, the better your health will be! It is recommended that you limit the time spent being inactive each day. This can be achieved by:

Harkins Elementary, with the support of our local Rotary Club, held a mock polio immunization on Wednesday, October 29. Student held a Pennies for Polio Week in order to raise funds to help eradicate polio from the planet. The Rotary will match the funds raised by the school. This amount will in turn be matched by Bill Gates. Photos of the mock immunization can be seen in our Image Gallery. The school would like to thank everyone for their support in this worthwhile cause!

The draw for the Halloween Painting will take place Wednesday, October 30. The painting is on display in the office area of the school. This is a 16x20 palette knife painting, acrylic on canvas (framed). Thanks goes out to Ed Pinder for donating the painting to the school. Tickets are one for $1 or three for $2. They are available from any student or at the school. The Home and School thanks you for your support.

A reminder to all parents of children who will be entering kindergarten next year (September, 2014), there will be a meeeting Tuesday, October 29 beginning at 6:00. This will take place in one of the kindergaten rooms on the main floor. This is an information session regarding ways parents can help prepare their child for school. As well, parents will be given Learning Kits which will include materials for the children.

The grade 4/5 and 2/3 soccer teams will both be playing in soccer jamborees to finish the year off. The 4/5 teams Jamboree is Thursday October 10 beginning at 3:30 at Gretna Green. The 2/3 Jamboree is Tuesday October 15th beginning at 4PM at Gretna Green.Hope to see everyone out!
