January is here!!!  The coldest month of the year!!!   Please make sure your child is dressed warmly.  We are outside most mornings and at noon.  Little people will be snug and warm if they have: An extra sweater or sweatshirt.  This can be removed and kept on their chair when we are inside.  Ski pants on, not in the bookbag. Mittens or heavy, insulated gloves.  Thin, stretchy gloves give little warmth and wet through very quickly. A hat

How many more days???  I am asked this several times each and every day!!! You may wish to visit the web site  claus.com   Here you will find some fun activities to keep the kids busy and learning as the big day approaches.  This site and others can also be found under my web links.   Remember that our Christmas concert is tomorrow at 9:30. Our class along with the grade 2 classes, go skating on Thursday morning.  We also go again on Thursday Dec.23. Skating should prove to be very exciting for many reasons that day.  I know the children will be quite wound up!! :} I would like to wish you all a very peaceful and joyous holiday season.  Thank you for granting me the privilege of teaching your child this term.  They are all special in their own way.  I am looking forward to a great 2011.   Merry Christmas!!

Ideas  Winter is here!  It would be very helpful if you would send an extra pair of mittens and socks that can be kept in your child's backpack.  Sending in an extra set of clothing is a good idea as well.....include pants, top, socks and underwear.  Some have already done this.  Playing in the snow can result in wet things, especially mittens.  If possible, mittens are the best choice.  The thin, stretchy gloves are not very warm and wet through quite quickly. With December now here, we will be focusing on all things Christmas.  We do a daily web class about customs around the world.  The website can be found in my weblinks, kented.org

A Great Math Site

Posted: October 22, 2010

Brrr... Today proved to remind us that winter is around the corner.  It is a good idea to pack an extra sweater or sweat shirt in the bookbag in case it is needed. We had a busy week.  We have been focusing on Halloween stories, vocabulary and activities.  Today we read about a boy preparing to go to a party at his friends apartment.  Ask your child what happened.  How did things get mixed up.  Of course we had to end the day with a Halloween cookie treat.  I sometimes think I enjoy these more than the kids:} We also went off course and learned and sang "The Migration Song."  See if your child remembers it.  Ask for a musical presentation:} We are exploring the numbers to 20 in math.  The children are working on the many ways to "show" a number, using pictures, counters, numerals and words.  Simple things at home can be used to demonstrate the many ways to show a number.  For example, pennies or buttons can be moved around to demonstrate that 11 can be represented as 10 and 1, 9 and 2 etc.   Skating will be starting this coming week or early next week.  So get the blades ready!!  All children must have a helmet.  We do have a limited number of extra skates and helmets here at school should your child not have their own.

Good day to you all.  What a great time we had at the Heritage Fair on Friday.  It was very educational, a real learning experience for all.  All of the children enjoyed their day, even though it was a bit cold. Today we read the story, " My Teacher Is a Vampire" by Mercer Mayer.  It is a fun book that demonstraits how the children let their imaginations get away and how they realized their mistakes.  Ask your child how the story ended.  It was a surprise!! We have been practising daily counting by 1's, 2's to 25, 5's to 50 and 10's to 100.  Please continue to do this each night. Halloween is fast approaching.  We will be reading lots of Halloween stories.  This is always lots of fun.  Yet we always stress the idea of "fun" and that it is all make believe.
