We will be having a series of safety drills on Friday, September 18. The students will be participating in bus evacuation safety at 8:45, followed by a Lockdown Drill at 9:45. During the Lockdown Drill, the school will be closed off to any visitors. This will take approximately 15 minutes. At 11:00 we will be having our first Fire Drill.
Welcome Back to Harkins Elementary! We hope everyone had a great summer! We have a couple of important items for the first day of school. First, the cafeteria is not open on Tuesday. All students will need to bring their own lunch. The cafeteria will open on Wednesday. Secondly, a reminder to K-1 parents there will be no microwave available for them this year, due to safety reasons. Items can be heated at home and brought in a thermos. We look forward to seeing everyone next week!
Our school will be hosting it's annual field day on Wednesday June the 17th at Memorial Baseball Field. The K-2 events will take place from 9-11:15 and the 3-5 track and field events will take place from 12:45-2:30. We would like to thank the Harkins Elementary Home and School in advance for running our BBQ and for providing snacks to all students. Hope to see everyone out!
The MVHS Fly Fishing club is encouraging parents to post a picture of your child fishing bassto their facebook page and they could win a prize. Also don't forget to keep track of how many times your child goes fishing during this springs bass season as your child can also win a prize for the Harkins Derby as well. Information about the this contest is attached!
We had a great turnout on our first gathering last Thursday at the Enclosure and although there weren't many bites all of the students and parents had a great time! We will be meeting again at the same location this Thursday 4:30 and hopefully there will be a good run of bass for our students to catch. Hope to see everyone there!
Just an update about the bass fishing derby that we are having. This is open to all ages within Harkins Elementary and myself and Mr. McInnis hope to see many students come out and fish bass with us on Thursday May 14th at 4:30 by the train bridge at the Enclosure. Attached is a form to track how many times your child fishes bass in the month of May and make sure to hand this in when the season is over. It is also important that all students who come have a parent with them and also have their own rod.
