We had an exciting week in Grade One Newman! Keegan Fournier brought in his new puppy Princess!!  She is a miniature chihuahua and is only 3 months old.  All the students were very well behaved as we didn't want to scare Princess.  We all had a chance to pet her too and everyone was very gentle.  Good job boys and girls!! Williard McAllister was our class representative at the District 16 Spelling Bee on Friday!  He did a fantastic job and we were all very proud of him!  Way to go Willard!

We are now into the month of April and are enjoying the first days of Spring!  Our focus in math will be on our addition and subtraction facts to 20.  It is very important that everyone continues to review the facts we have learned and to use the strategies such as "Counting On" and "Counting Back".  In Literacy we will continue with our Guided Reading sessions focusing on fluency and comprehension.  It is necessary for all students to read the books at their level that are sent home each evening!!  The best way to become a better reader is simple.....JUST READ!!  We are also working hard during our Writing Workshop sessions creating wonderful stories!  We need to focus on being able to read back what we have written :)

We have read How The Grinch Stole Christmas and have done many different activites with this theme.  Today we wrote a letter to Mr. Grinch convincing him to love Christmas as much as we do!  Enjoy :)   Dear Mr. Grinch, We think you should love Christmas as much as we do.  We love getting presents.  We love celebrating Baby Jesus' birth.  We love to decorate the Christmas tree.   We love opening our stockings.  We love being with our friends and family.  We love giving presents to others.  We love playing in the snow.  We love to sing Christmas carols.   Love, Mrs. Newman's Grade One Class

It is hard to believe that it is Christmas week already!  Time sure does fly when you are having fun!  We will be doing lots of Christmas activities this week and continue to learn about Christmas traditions around the world!  I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of my students and their families a holiday full of much love and happiness.    "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.  Maybe Christmas......perhaps.......means a little bit more."   -  The Grinch

Shared Writing by Gr. 1 Newman       Acrostic Poem: Santa   S is for Santa's sleigh that he flies around the world.   A is for an airplane that Santa might put in your stocking.   N is for the night when Santa flies his sleigh.   T is for the toys that Santa and the elves make.   A is for all the presents that Santa delivers on Christmas Day.

Believe it or not, winter is on the way!  It would be very helpful if you would send an extra pair of mittens and socks that can be kept in your child's backpack.  Sending in an extra set of clothing is a good idea as well.....include pants, top, socks and underwear.  Thanks :)
