Students will be going to the Civic Center by bus to participate in skating. On Friday November 9, the kindergarteners and grade 1C will skate from 9:00-9:45. At 10:00-10:45, grade 1U, and the grade 2 classes will skate.On Thursday, November 22, the Grade 3-5's will skate. Thank you to the Home and School for sponsoring this activity.
Please note the change in the date of the Hallowe'en Party. It will be held this Friday night, October 26, from 6:00 to approximately 7:30. All students and siblings of Harkins Elementary School are invited to attend. Please note children must be accompanied during the evening by a parent. Admission is free. Special treats will be on sale for .50 - $1. Various stations will be set up, including our popular Haunted Room! We also have a special guest reader for the evening. Make sure you come in costume!
Our once a year fundraiser is on now. Students should have brought home a LaMontagne catalogue. This year there is an even greater variety of jewellry, calendars, wrapping paper, kitchen gadgets, etc. The deadline for orders is Thursday, October 18. Students who sell items from the catalogue are eligible for prizes. Monies raised will go toward student activities throughout the year, guest speakers, etc.
Registration for children entering Kindergarten in September 2013 will be held from October 9-12, 2012 at Harkins Elementary. Kindergarten registration is for children who will turn five by December 31, 2013. Medicare Card and/or Birth Certificate and Proof of Immunization are required at time of registration. Our first Home and School meeting will be held Tuesday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m. It will be held in the main floor staff room. Our main focus of this meeting will be to plan our Halloween Party. We hope to have a large turnout of parents willing to help out!
Our first event this year for the Harkins has Healthy Hearts Walking Club will take place Monday, September 24. Meet us at French Fort Cove (by the ECO center) at 4 p.m. Parents, grandparents, babysitters, etc are welcome. Hope to see you there!
Mad Science, the popular after school program is back! There is a slate of all new topics, including Light, Birds and Beasts, Gravity, Space, and Rocket Building. Students will get to build their very own Rocket! The program runs every Tuesday, from 2:00-3:00 for K-2 students, and 3:05-4:05 for grade 3-5 students.Students have been given the green registration forms. The registration deadline is September 26; the program begins on October 2.
School students in the Miramichi region are once again being offered free admission to four classical music concerts scheduled during this school year. The concerts feature young professional Canadian musicians who are highly trained and often have international experience. This season’s series includes a clarinet and piano duo (September 23), Mozart’s opera Cosi Fan Tutte (November 17), a woodwind quartet (February 19) and a guitar trio (April 12) These concerts are organized by Jeunesses Musicales Canada – Miramichi and are held at Carrefour Beausoleil starting at 7:30 p.m.
Picture Day is Wednesday, April 12. Pictures will be taken starting at approximately 8:30. We will begin with the kindergarteners and work our way up to the grade 5 students.
