Harkins Elementary is celebrating its 115th birthday, this year, and we're planning a special celebration in the spring. Stay tuned for upcoming details!   Harkins Elementary is the only provincially-designated community school within the City of Miramichi, and we're proud to have the city partner with us in a unique mentoring program.   Joan Johnston and her team of volunteers provide a hearty morning breakfast for students, and there are many other volunteers who also deserve much credit for making Harkins Elementary the warm and welcoming place that it is.   Janette Nowlan and Edwina Martin are familiar faces around the school, and both recently volunteered for the Bus Driver Appreciation breakfast.   The list of special people goes on and on ... We’re certainly proud of our after-school program, under the direction of Susan Hare and Crystal Saunders.   We're also proud of our students and staff, which help create a warm and friendly atmosphere at Harkins Elementary. The photos on these community school pages and classroom web pages attest to this, however only provide a small sample of the many activities and events taking place.   The goal is to enhance a happy and respectful environment where children are nurtured and feel safe, where each child is given the opportunity and encouragement to be the best they can be.
