What Is a Habitat? A habitat is the area where a plant or animal lives. It includes: food, water, shelter, space, and temperature.                                         A forest may be a habitat for a moose, whereas a beaver pond may be the habitat for a trout, and a dead tree trunk may be the habitat for a fungus, or a beetle. Habitats can be different sizes.
