Addition Strategies 1.
Strategy: When one of the numbers is 1, 2, or 3, start with the bigger number and count on.

Think: 7…8, 9
See 3+9=___
Think: 9…10, 11, 12

2. Turnarounds
Strategy: In addition, turnarounds have the same answer.
See: 9+2
Think: 2+9=11, so 9+2= 11
3. Zero Facts
Strategy: When 0 is added to any number, the number stays the same.

Think: 6

4. Doubles
Strategy: When the numbers are the same, think of the picture.

5. Doubles Plus 1
Strategy: When one number is 1 more than the other number, think of the doubles picture and add 1.
